After a week of reconstructing the bodie, using a twinpiped haile shotgun to shoot the dirt off our bodies, after a week of defraging, scandiscing and getting used to speaking swedish again the mind was slowly adjusting to the northern light again. . .
So, We were once again ready to hit the road... This time the journey was taking us to our neighbours in Sarpsborg, Norway. When Stefan picked me up outside my printshop that Friday midnoon, it was a familiar smell, a familiar pile of garbage and empty cigarettepacks that piled up in front of my eyes, he had'nt tidied the car! The Euros that I had left in the compartment beside "my" seat was still bathing in coca-cola that I spilled somewere south of Rödby... A week ago! Never mind, just a few seconds of driving and we were back in that Europace and that mood from the Euro-cruisade. This time there were snow, and the depth of it got deeper and deeper as we slowly entered the land of oil and "lusekoftor". A "lusekofta" is a special kind of sweater that the Norwegians always has to wear, it separates them from the rest of Scandinavia... We crossed the border and went a bit south onwards to Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg. As we entered Sarpsborg we emediatly tracked the hotel down... A nice genuine Norwegian architecture told Us that this would be just the place to be tonight. Christmas in Scandinavia is special and very traditional, aspecially the Norwegian version of it. And we looked forward to meet our brothers and have a genuine Norwegian "christmas-table". We sat down in the "smokingroom" ( for continental europeans it might be good to know that in Scandinavia it is the nonsmokers who has the power). The chairman of RT28 Sarpsborg, entered the smokefilled room first, his name is Stein, He is a real man, he was using "snuff", that is the drug that separates men from mice, Mormons from Knight's and I am not really a religous guy! We would later on give him a real battle of snapsing... We said our hello's and started to drink beer... The rest of the club arrived and we went upstairs for dinner. We had a short presentation and started emediatly to drink "juleakvavit" ahhh... finally back in scandinavia were one can get a REAL schnaps (+40%) just pure whitewater... The meeting started and all the delicious norwegian specialities was served by young norwegian girlies. This was probably the castle Chamelot, it just had to be, the Holy graal was of course the small crystalclear icefrosted glasses with norwegian snaps! Stein was trying to follow Us in snapsing, we saw him disconnect from the leading group somewere outside Paris. If this had been the Tour de France that is! But, I give him My credits anyway, He tried but whats the point of explaining the theory of relativity to Einstein, whats the point in telling George W Bush that USA is a part of a larger community called Earth?! He had, Stein that is, working day ahead of him, and he had to be the host of this meeting! We made our presentation and at once the brothers of Sarpsborg started to make fun of the Swedish currency, and the swedish cross-country ski team... But we made our points, and we scored a few hits on the Norwegian Ego! And I think they've got the hang of the idea behind a Euromeeting. We had a lot of fun and a lot of booze, so the evening was of course yet another typical Eurotour evening, but the thing was that this was just a one night stand! There are no pictures from this meeting, since we forgot to bring the camera (probably the only thing Stefan took out of his Volvo since the great tour!) We had a cheerful goodbye in the lobby, a bunch of new friends and a sincere hope that someone from Sarpsborg will attend the Euromeet... Thanks a lot for hospitality, jokes, smokes, that typicall SWEDEN versus NORWAY- spirit and of course juleakvavit... |
